I’ve gotten a few more years with this rod since my first review, and I find I love the rod more and more. It can literally lift any sinking line, the heaviest of tips, and the largest of flies, with ease. It’s a proper salmon rod. The backbone and strength is unreal. I’ve been using a 725gr multi density Skagit (sustained anchor casting) and 18′ of T-14 or T-17. It just lifts and launches. ???? When I know there could be trophy size salmon, I grab this rod. For long lines, I like the grains to be around 900-950 for optimal loading.
October 4, 2025This rod is really something special! Most rods I’ve casted that are listed in the 11wt territory are either not a true 11wt, or are just broomsticks. This rod is truly an 11wt, yet is extremely responsive and easy to cast. The more time I spend with this rod the more I love it!! It handles Skagit heads from 725-770gr brilliantly, and throws 18′ of T-17 like its child’s play. Conversely, the EEMT 11/12 just flies off of this rod with ease, and the 15m @848gr. is a powerhouse line for reaching out. For fishing sinking lines for huge salmon, I doubt there is a better fly rod out there. If you target salmon in the 40-60lb class and above, this rod is just awesome.
November 12, 2023I’m a new to the world of spey. At first I thought the rod maybe a little heavy even though I fish a large river in B.C. but to my surprise the sensitivity of this rod even allows you to feel the smallest of trout. When it comes to casting I started with a 63′ head and now into 83′ and its all because of the rod, its like cannon going off. I highly recommend it even if your a newbe.
November 22, 2019This 15′ 11weight EQ is just the rod I was looking for. It is light in hand and casts just like a dream. No doubt the best I have ever used.
September 21, 2015The 15 foot 11# line rod is a fanstastic rod for fishing big rivers chasing the big salmon. It has all the good qualities of the 10 # line rod, but is stronger. The rods strong tip and its deep, fast and progressive action, makes casting very easy. Shooting heads 43-47 grams og long heads 15-17 meter 53-55 grams, really suits this rod. If you cast using both arms, the rod responds giving you tremendous distance. This is a superb rod, and my favorite rod for “big salmon” fishing.
