Quite dimply the best spey rod out there right now, the 13.9 destination is the most versatile rod I have used, it loves 550 grain skagits, tips and big flies, but is super fun with 39 gramd heads lighter tackle and floating lines. In my experience it has a very wide grain window, great lifting power and a tip strong enough for heavy sink tip fishing I have complete confidence in this little powerhouse, don’t worry about the 8/9 rating, it’s far more powerful then most 10wt 14 foot rods on the market, I have landed many big salmon in Russia and Norway using it, I now have so much faith in the rod I’ve not used a 10 wt or longer rod since.
March 11, 2020The Gaelforce 13ft 9′ Destination is my go to rod for the majority of my fishing. Its ability to handle a large range of lines from fast sinking shooting heads to 63ft head floaters is second to none. This rod also has tremendous power reserves and can handle large spring fish at its ease. The rod is basically a joy to use. I would unreservedly recommend this rod as a must for any serious salmon fly angler. Kevin Clayton
November 15, 2019This was my first Gaelforce rod, and it is still the rod I use most often. It is so easy to cast, and is tremendously versatile. It takes a Skagit line (600 gr Patriot) when casting heavier flies or heavier tips; is delightful when fishing a floating line (63ft Gaelforce Equalizer, 585gr), and when versatility with “touch” is desirable, the EQ MT 585gr is hard to beat. I like the fact that it is as smooth as any 4 piece rod I have, and at the end of the day, can be broken down into 3 pieces, or 2 pieces, for transport. When traveling, it fits easily into a 36″ rod case. I find it a bit long when tight to a wooded bank, but with its power, it does not take much of a d-loop to get the fly to the fish. On a big river with space for a big d-loop: watch out! With a solid stroke, 120′ is not a problem – I am sure a competent caster could get a lot more from it.
November 11, 2019The Gaelforce Destination 13ft 9in 8/9# 6pc is a fantastic salmon rod. Best 6 pc rod ever made. A deep fast action that makes casting very easy. It was my favourite rod fishing the Varzina and Lakselva rivers in 2015. I had a total of 12 salmon, average weight 20 pounds, and can truly recommend this rod.
